Adif Alta Velocidad (Adif AV) has started preliminary work for the construction of the new Salou-PortAventura railway station, which represents an investment of more than 12.4 million euros (VAT included).
The first operations consist of the clearing of the vegetation to, later, start the excavation of land prior to the execution of the foundation works of the future structure of the passenger building, the parking lot and urbanization.
With the entry into service of the Vandellòs-Tarragona variant of the Mediterranean Corridor, the old Salou station ceased to provide service and the current PortAventura halt has become the new station in the city, but it must be equipped with all the characteristics and services necessary to provide service as a terminal station.
Therefore, the objective of this action, awarded to the company Copcisa with an estimated completion time of 24 months, is to adapt the station to the current needs of railway operations, adapt and expand them to the demands of railway customers and improve its functionality.
Among the actions included in the project, included in the Rodalies Plan, the new passenger building stands out, in which a main hall with a waiting area will be created, a public exploitation area that will have a ticket sales area and service to the client for different operators, a space for private exploitation with internal dependencies and installation rooms, a commercial premises and public toilets.
Regarding the platforms, the current one (240 meters long and 5 meters wide) will be remodeled, and a new one of similar dimensions will be built next to the main road.
Both platforms will be joined at their head by a 9.5 m wide platform that will connect them to the station building. They will also have a canopy approximately 200 meters long, as well as at the head of the connection with the building.
As it is a terminus station, buffers will be built at the end of the existing platform on track 2 and the general track of track 1 and the railway facilities (electrification, tracks, signaling and communications) will be adapted to the new configuration of the station.
On the other hand, a surface car park with 200 spaces for cars is projected, of which 10 will be reserved for people with reduced mobility, and space for motorcycles and bicycles.
Likewise, areas for passenger loading and unloading, and taxi parking are included. Both the car park and the taxi rank and the space for passengers getting on and off will have canopies.
In addition, the accesses will be urbanized, with the definition of the necessary roads to organize the different types of traffic (private vehicles, parking, kiss&ride, taxis, buses and pedestrian traffic). New security enclosures will also be installed throughout the area of the new station.
