Vandellòs i l’Hospitalet de l’Infant has obtained the Sender Blau 2022 award for a path parallel to the coast known as El Jonquet. This is a quality label granted by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (Adeac) with the aim of promoting the sustainable development of coastal areas. In the letter of congratulations received by the Department of Tourism of Vandellòs i l’Hospitalet, the Aeac thanked the City Council for “the effort and commitment of the municipality to maintain quality and care for the environment, carrying out appropriate tasks and activities to its preservation and enhancement.
This coastal path of El Jonquet is a low-difficulty route that joins two beaches: Arenal and Torn. It runs parallel to the coast and more than half of the itinerary crosses the Rojala-Platja del Torn Area of Natural Interest (PEIN), where the Torn islet is located, a small rock promontory attached to the beach that still conserves traces of of an old watchtower from the 16th century.
In 2017 the City Council carried out actions in El Jonquet to prepare the candidacy to receive the Sender Blau award that it has already obtained in other years. Since then, improvements have been made to the pavement and the signage, sections have been fixed with stairs and railings; and other conditioning works have been carried out.
