The Government of the Generalitat and the Catalan universities have agreed to increase the new places for access to the Nursing degree by 561, 25% more than the current ones. In an act this Thursday, the Ministers of Health, Josep Maria Argimon, and of Research and Universities, Gemma Geis, have added that 435 of these new places (almost 80% of the increase) will be at public price.
Thus, for the first time, the number of seats at the public price (1,380) will exceed the private offer out of the total number of seats available (2,745). By universities and teaching units, the University of Barcelona (UB) will have 140 new places (80 at Bellvitge and 60 at the Clinic); the same as the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB): 70 in Germans Trias i Pujol and 70 in Parc Taulí.
The University of Lleida (UdL) will have 80 new places (40 in Arnau de Vilanova and 40 in Igualada); the University of Girona (UdG) will assume 60 new places; and the Rovira i Virgili University (URV)) will increase by 15 places (8 in Tarragona and 7 in Tortosa).
In private universities, the UB’s affiliated center in Sant Joan de Déu will increase by 60 places; the International University of Catalonia (UIC) will have 30 more places on the Sant Cugat Campus; and the University of Vic (UVic) will increase by 36 places (18 in Vic and 18 in Manresa).
The review of the Nursing degree also includes a proposal to improve training, for which a Working Group for the Improvement of Training in Nursing Studies has been created within the framework of the Consell Interuniversitari de Catalunya (CIC).
Along these lines, the aim is to promote “training in nursing empowerment and leadership”, with aspects such as working more deeply on emotional intelligence and reinforcing professional identity. It also seeks to improve communication skills and abilities, strengthen emotional management and better plan practices, increasing simulations and clinical practices.
