This Tuesday, April 19, the works of the second phase of transformation of the Barcelona avenue in Miami Platja are scheduled to begin, which includes the section between the Cádiz and Málaga avenues and also includes the redevelopment of the emblematic Jaén square.
After a few weeks in which preliminary work has been carried out such as the removal of urban furniture, the fencing of some areas and the installation of provisional services by the winning company, Tecnologia de Firmes, from now on the most relevant aspects of this ambitious project that is completely changing the aspect that the old national N-340 offered.
The Mont-roig del Camp City Council has already announced that it would wait until the end of the Easter holidays to start the work and thus avoid damages in this period that has led to a notable increase in visitors, bordering on the data from the pre-pandemic period.
As of this Tuesday, it is also expected that the restrictions on the movement of vehicles will begin along the avenue of Barcelona itself. The consistory will announce the alternative routes of circulation, the relocation of the bus stops and the rest of the affectations that the works entail.
In any case, access to the Miami Platja Primary Care Center will always be guaranteed with a circulatory lane to its facilities, as announced by the consistory.
The works of this second phase were awarded to the company Tecnologia de Firmes for a price of 2,107,674.80 euros (VAT included) and will last for a maximum period of 15 months, as specified in the contract signed on March 15.
The works will follow the line of the first phase already executed in what is the main artery of Miami Platja.
They contemplate from the expansion of the space for pedestrians to the creation of bike lanes, through the installation of new bus stops; the planting of new trees and garden areas as well as new urban furniture and lighting, rainwater and wastewater collectors.
Another of the most significant changes will be the one that the emblematic Jaén square will undergo, which will gain a large space with various areas and the objective of becoming a great meeting point for families with their children and friends.
a symbolic space
That place, of enormous symbolism among the residents of Miami, will also totally transform its surroundings. The four streets that converge in the square will become just two with the widening of the sidewalks and the pedestrian areas that will be gained.
In parallel, the works will coincide, later, with those of the third phase of the improvement of Barcelona Avenue, in this case from Tarragona Square to Maria Cristina Avenue.
The City Council already contemplated in its budgets for this 2021 another item of 1.8 million euros.
