The transformation of the courtyards of the Escoles Bressol Municipals (EBM) into Jardins Educatius will face its final stretch this summer, with the works of the last remaining school, the EBM El Marfull.
The EBM El Margalló works have been the last to be completed so far and there are already boys and girls using them, as well as the rest of the EBM in the city, such as La Ginesta, L’Olivera, El Lligabosc and Montsant, which have been Jardins Educatius for a long time.
«In El Marfull, the idea is to start the works just when the school year ends, in order to hinder as little as possible. We want to have the school track as an access point for the entry of machinery to start with the works”, the Councilor for Education and Language Policy at the Reus City Council, Daniel Recasens, told Diari a few days ago. The project to convert the EBM patios into Jardins Educatius was publicized for the first time in 2018 and the Serveis Municipals d’Arquitectura i de Jardinería have intervened to carry it out. The objective of the change was to find one more educational resource for the centers themselves, giving value to the recreation area as a pedagogical, experience and learning space.
The Jardins Educatius master plan of the EBM defines actions from which the little ones have access to a range of possibilities for play, discovery, mobility, hiding, tranquility and development. It advocates the use of natural elements of the patios, which in turn are integrated with the landscape and the environment, adapting to the educational project of each EBM. The mayor of the capital of Baix Camp, Carles Pellicer, presented the Jardins Educatius as a will of the city itself to “offer quality services in the educational field that goes from zero to three years”.
The proposal for the plan was worked out with the directors of the centers, with the aim of involving the rest of the educational communities, be it children and teachers, such as families and the City Council.
From the Department of Education, they state that the project’s master plan sought, from its inception, to adapt to each of the EBM to intervene. The architect Lluís Salat was in charge of creating the document with the intervention proposals for each EBM. The master plan amounted to approximately 135,000 euros, as it was defined at the time. From here, specific projects were also derived for each of the Escoles Bressol. The concept of Jardí Educatiu is understood in a global way and contemplates from the type of pavement, the accesses and perimeter closures to the adaptation of natural elements and patio furniture.
enrich the game
As for the game elements, it was also sought to provide playful elements –such as slides and painted games– and natural game elements –where trees and the garden itself were included–. Architectural elements, such as stairs or slopes, are other supports that help enrich the game that can be given in a Garden Educatiu.
Each EBM has a pedagogical project. La Ginesta, for example, in order to encourage children to play freely, as well as their creativity and imagination, opted to increase shaded areas and naturalize the space with more green perimeter and play elements, including character symbolic and experimental. In fact, it was one of the first to transform itself and reinvented the traditional idea of the kindergarten playground, giving it value and useful potential as an educational resource. The change carried out represented an approximate investment of 48,000 euros that was carried out by the company Construccions Vinaixa. Later, the replacement of the exterior paving was tendered, with a budget of 17,695, 94 euros without VAT.
The first named intervention was included in the 2018 investment plan, which also expected to carry out the transformations of the El Margalló and El Lligabosc EBMs that year.
In each educational project, naturalizing environments has a clear role and there are more and more bets that promote the connection with nature. In El Margalló –whose bidding budget together with Marfull was 97,566.77 euros with VAT–, the educational project was adapted to its small patio, and it was proposed to expand the play area with the approach of using the space of the Mas Juroca garden, headquarters of the Center Cívic Migjorn. It was planned to modify the perimeter closure, the creation of unevenness and slopes, as well as a relaxation area and a water fountain, among other elements.
In El Lligabosc, on the other hand, the creation of a garden with adventures, challenges and experiences that would vary throughout the year was defined. Among other interventions, there was also talk of naturalizing several areas.
L’Olivera –whose reform project to tender had a budget of 25,525.56 euros without VAT– was one of the EBMs most adapted to the criteria required as Jardí Educatiu. As far as his intervention proposal is concerned, his pedagogical project wanted to reinforce the elements that would help the integral growth of the little ones from their interaction with nature, among other elements.
In the case of the EBM El Marfull, as it has up to four interior patios and a larger fifth exterior, a proposal was sought in which the interior-exterior relationship would be improved, to give continuity to the patios of the pedagogical model. of the classrooms. In this case, shaded spaces will be created, wooden structures and pavements will be renovated and, among other things, new psychomotricity games, symbolic game tables and planters will be installed.
The pedagogical project of the EBM Montsant – with a budget in the tender of 14,367, 11 euros without VAT – focused on promoting the autonomy and freedom of action of children; and in the creation of itineraries with trunks, slopes and balances, as well as a water circuit, among other elements.
