The “largest container ship in its history” arrives at the Port of Tarragona

The MSC Sindy has docked this Wednesday at the Andalusian dock of the Port of Tarragona, thus becoming the largest container ship that has visited the infrastructure, reported this Wednesday in a statement.

The vessel is 337 meters long and has a draft of 13.95 meters in its deepest part, a distance “very close” to the draft limits of the dock where the container terminal is located.

The ship comes from the Port of Marsaxlokk (Malta), will unload 1,148 containers and will depart for the London Gateway Port (United Kingdom) at the end of the operation.

The dimensions of the MSC Sindy have meant that the vessel has had to wait for all the fishing boats to leave the port in order to carry out the entry maneuver with “all safety guarantees”.

The Port of Tarragona has doubled its movement of containerized goods compared to 2021, and in recent months general cargo has increased by 128,655 tons compared to the same quarter of 2021.
