“Museums and art centers look after a legacy, a heritage and a past, but we can also be an engine of reflection, training, information and change.” With these words, Mònica Borrell, director of the Tarragona National Archaeological Museum (MNAT), summed up the philosophy of the Viatge a la Constel lació Museu, a guided night tour of the eight museum facilities in Tarragona, which will open their doors on Museum Night, on Saturday 14 May, a date that is commemorated around International Museum Day that takes place every May 18.
Thus, in what will be the eighth edition, coordinated by Auriga Serveis Culturals, CaixaForum Tarragona, the Museu del Port de Tarragona, the Museu Bíblic Tarraconense, the Museu Diocesà de Tarragona, the Museu d’Art Modern de Tarragona, the Museu Nacional Arqueològic of Tarragona, the Museum of History of Tarragona and the Mèdol – Center d’Arts Contemporànies of Tarragona They will offer a joint itinerary inspired by the power of Museums, according to the leitmotiv proposed by the International Council of Museums. To do this, each facility has chosen a piece that will help explain the concept of power to the public, while offering a particular and different vision of the other centers.
The itinerary will be held with the support of the tourist train that will transport the public on the longest trips to the different centers, while the rest will be done on foot. To participate, registration is essential -the price is 2 euros per person- starting today and until capacity is reached, on the website www.mnat.cat/activitats. As a novelty, the Viatge a la Constel·lació Museu will offer the opportunity to carry out the itinerary freely between May 14 and 18. “Visitors will be given an album in which they can collect the stickers of each of the pieces that are part of the route after having visited them”, explained Mònica Borrell, who highlighted that “the information on each of the Parts will also be available online via QR codes.”
At the same time, each of the facilities will organize different activities on May 14 and 18. The director of Museum of the PortMercè Toldrà, reported that “already on May 13, coinciding with the celebration of the twenty-second anniversary of the Museu del Port, the activity Tour through the history of the Port (8:30 p.m.)». The following day, in collaboration with the MNAT, both facilities will organize The petite night of the museums, which will include workshops and crafts from 7 pm to 11 pm for children from 3 to 10 years old; and activities for the whole family, from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., such as the escape room The mystery of the pirate Joan Torrelles. Meanwhile, the Trio Jazz group’s concert has been scheduled for May 18 (8:30 p.m.). For his part, the National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona will organize a guided tour and a game of clues.
Within the framework of the two dates, the director of Caixaforum TarragonaGlòria Olivé, explained that the center “will extend the hours to be able to visit the exhibition Pixar. building characters, in which the public will discover the secrets behind the Pixar factory. Thus, on May 14 the facility will remain open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to midnight, while on May 18 it will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. uninterruptedly. The service of educators in the exhibition hall will also be reinforced.
For its part, of Biblic Museum of Tarragona and the Diocesan Museum of Tarragona, Andreu Muñoz highlighted that «the first will remain open from 6 pm to midnight, in addition to monitoring the visit to Tarracròpolis; and in the second center you can visit from the Gothic art gallery to the 20th century, from 18 to 24 hours, in addition to being able to access, with a monitor, the Roman Exedra Room ». As far as International Museum Day is concerned, the Museu Biblic Tarraconense will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and the Museu Diocesà de Tarragona from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 to 7 p.m.
Along the same lines, Cris Salom, director of the Museum of History -which manages the monumental venues of the Circ-Pretori, Muralles, Amfiteatre, Fòrum de la Colònia, Casa Canals and Casa Castellarnau- stressed that «on the 14th, the Casa Castellarnau and the Circ-Pretori will remain open until midnight, and on the 18th From May the entrance to each one of the monumental enclosures will be free».
On the other hand, the activity of Mèdol – Center d’Arts Contemporànies will meet on May 14. As explained by Vicent Fibla, director of the art center, «the facility will be open until midnight to visit the Physis exhibition. On the same day, the installation by Mario Santamaria (8pm), on the power of the internet, will be inaugurated, and the performance by Citlali Hernández will be presented at the ISEA (International Symposium Of Electronic Art, Barcelona-Territori)».
Finally, the director of Museum of Modern Art of the Provincial Council of Tarragona, Manel Margalef, explained that «the Night of the Museums three activities will be held; the first will value the figure of the psychiatrist Francesc Tosquelles; the second, La llum interior: fem portraits and photo collage! it will be inspired by the Lluc Queralt exhibition Espais d’Introspecció; and the third reMir@r will invite you to rewatch Miró’s Tapís with the help of the Sound Art and Concrete Music duet Jewell Bell, the digital artist Patri Aragón and the turntablist DJ Ferèstec».
