The lutenist and guitarist Edin Karamazov, the sorpano Núria Rial, the guitarist from L’Hospitalet de l’Infant Anabel Montesinos, the dancer Mª Carmen Gallardo and the painter Evelyn Roca, among others, will be the protagonists of the fifth edition of the International Festival of L’Hospitalet de l’Infant guitar, which will be held from July 20 to 24. “We are very happy to resume programming with a double objective: the quality and accessibility of the concerts to the entire public,” said the Councilor for Culture, Núria Ortiz.
In this edition “the guitar will share the limelight with other artistic disciplines, such as painting, dance and poetry, by the hand of prestigious musicians and artists,” added Ortiz, to which the artistic director, Anders Clemens, said that ” the result is a very attractive program, since the value of the guitar is added to that of other arts».
This year, the inaugural concert will be performed by Edin Karamazov, lute, and Núria Rial, soprano, on Wednesday, July 20 (8pm) at the Center Cultural Infant Pere. Edin Karamazov stands out for his virtuoso performances. For her part, the soprano Núria Rial is one of the paradigmatic voices of the baroque and classical repertoire of recent years. Of the performance, Anders Clemens noted that “Karamazov is a special and diverse musician who became known thanks to a collaboration with Sting and the song Songs from the Labyrinth.”
The following day, the protagonists will be three women of national and international renown, who will unite their talent in the show Les dones i les arts (8 pm, Center Cultural Infant Pere). They are the guitarist from L’Hospitalet de l’Infant Anabel Montesinos –the youngest winner, at 17, of the Francisco Tárrega International Guitar Competition in Spain–, the local painter Evelyn Roca and the dancer Carmen Gallardo –director of the first dance school of the municipality of Vandellòs i l’Hospitalet de l’Infant. “The show will be a tribute to Anna Dodas, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the birth of this renowned guitarist and poet,” explained the director of the festival.
On the other hand, on Friday, July 22, starting at eight in the afternoon, the performance of the winners of the two categories of the Concurs de Joves Intèrprets del Conservatori de Vila-seca will take place.
In this regard, Núria Ortiz explained that “we are happy to support young musicians from the territory, making it possible for the winners of the contest to perform at the International Guitar Festival”, and added that “this collaboration with the Vila-seca Conservatory It is not born to be a one-time event, but we work to make it continuous and enriching for both parties.
That same Friday, guitarist Silvia Nogales, who stands out for her ability to create successful recitals and interdisciplinary projects, will also take to the stage; and the cartoonist Josep Maria Rius, artistically known as ‘Joma’.
The weekend, the program will kick off with the conference The guitar in Catalan literature of the Renaissance – images, speeches, significats, by Rolf Bäcker (Saturday, July 23, 6:00 p.m., Center Cultural Infant Pere), an activity that included in the program for the Year Joan Carles Amat. It is noteworthy that Bäcker’s interests constantly move between historical musicology and ethnomusicology and include semiotic aspects and the exchange between music and literature.
Later, at 8 pm, the composer and guitarist Feliu Gasull and the poet Enric Casasses will perform. Gasull is one of the exponents of the Catalan guitar and as a composer, he has written works for guitar, for chamber ensembles, for voice and for orchestra, while the poet and translator Casasses.
Of his performance, Feliu Gasull explained that «I will be lucky enough to be able to act alongside an extraordinary poet. As a composer who likes to write music, aside from playing it on the guitar, I’ve always liked reading poetry.” He himself assured that «composers always look for wonderful texts and, although there are many in the past, for me it has always been a pleasure to work with Enric Casasses because he is a living poet».
Lastly, on Sunday, July 24 (8:00 p.m., Center Cultural Infant Pere), the International Guitar Festival of L’Hospitalet de l’Infant will bid farewell with the conference Opera without words: musical theatricality in the classical and romantic repertoire, which will be pronounced by the clarinettist Lorenzo Coppola, who will later act together with the guitarist Bernardo Rambeaud.
