The Brises del Mar urbanization will drink water from the Ebre this summer

The deficit of water for drinking in the Brises del Mar de Altafulla urbanization is coming to an end. For this summer, with the arrival of water from the Consorci d’Aigües de Tarragona (CAT), it is expected that an endemic problem will be solved that has worsened over the years and that has been dragging on since the very origins of this urbanized area, born in the sixties of the last century. Yesterday at noon the works contract was formalized, next to the well that currently supplies water, signed by the Altafulla Co-Mayor, Jordi Molinera, and the winning company RS Agrotècnica del Segrià, SL, represented by Marcos Ortega, the technical director of the company.

The execution of the project consists of the interconnection of the reservoirs of the Sant Antoni mountain and that of Brises del Mar, to bring the water from the Ebro to the area, which is what supplies the Altafulla municipality. Precisely Jordi Molinera recalled that solving the water supply problem at this point in the municipality “has been a priority from the moment we entered local government and it is fair that the entire municipality has the same services, in this case, the quality of the water. The mayor admits that the road has not been easy “since it has been necessary to review and update the project, the signing of temporary expropriations and the probable revaluation of costs.”

The works will begin shortly and they will materialize in the construction of a 3.5-kilometre conduit that will link the Sant Antoni reservoir with that of Brises del Mar, and the installation of an impulsion group. The pipeline will run underground through local roads and private farms and will have to cross underground structures and roads such as the N-340 road, the regional TP-214, the AP-7 motorway and the route of the old Reus-Roda de Bera.

The duration of the works is estimated at two and a half months. Molinera has pointed out that “the reduced execution period is what has determined the award”. The award price is 346,610.78 euros (VAT included) below the tender price of 421,667.61 euros. For its financing, it has a grant of 170,000 euros granted by the Agència Catalana de l’Aigua.

The improvement will mean that some 120 families will have adequate water quality. Until now and for many years, the supply, without being unhealthy, had an unpleasant taste in the mouth.
