More staff at ten stations in the province of Tarragona

At the end of October 2021, Adif (Railway Infrastructure Manager, the state company in charge of boosting the railway sector) reported the award throughout Spain of different services for stations with a budget of 23.7 million. These are different lots for the provision of auxiliary and complementary external services at passenger stations throughout the country. And its activation, depending on the area and the complexity of the project, has different deadlines.

In the case that affects the province of Tarragona, the award focuses on ten stations in the demarcation, those with the highest volume of passengers and which are located on the coastline in addition to the AVE station.

Adif awarded this complementary service to the company Ferrovial in October. “It is about serving the traveler in those aspects of Adif’s responsibility and that have nothing to do with circulation and schedules, Renfe’s competence,” explain sources from the public company.

The stations where this service (called Facility) will be activated are Tarragona, Tortosa, Cambrils, Vila-seca, Torredembarra, L’Hospitalet de l’Infant, Salou-PortAventura, L’Ametlla de Mar, L’Aldea and the Camp station from Tarragona (located in La Secuita). In all of them, Ferrovial will provide the necessary personnel.

“The winning company is in charge of hiring and training these workers who will cover the time slots required by each station,” the same sources explain. For this reason, it is difficult to specify how many new people will work in the ten stations in the province because “they must cover a large time slot every day of the year, without exception,” they explain from Adif.

The public company only sets the traveler service hours at each station and although it will vary, on average the Facility service will be operational for about 17 hours a day, so the personnel designated in each position must cover this time slot all the year, working days and holidays.

These new employees trained and contracted by Ferrovial and who will work at the demarcation’s stations will have their space within the facilities. Some stations will distribute the physical space to put this office, but in others a prefabricated booth will be installed to be able to locate this new Adif service. The public company is in charge of carrying out these works in those stations that lack a space to enable the Facility service.

In the case of Vila-seca, to give an example, Adif informed the City Council at the end of February of the installation of a work booth for the Facility service at the station. It should be remembered that the law of the railway sector allows Adif to carry out the works without the need to request a license in the municipality where the works are carried out.

For a few days, a trench was dug to be able to lay electrical wiring to supply power to the booth, which will be installed in the coming weeks. Adif sources estimate that the service will be launched in June and stresses that the objective is to serve the traveler in all those matters that Adif is responsible for.
