The storm this Wednesday, April 20, has caused damage to the Torre de los Escipions in Tarragona. Specifically, a lightning bolt that struck the monument produced a vertical fissure that affected several ashlars on the main face, as well as the movement of ashlars on the upper body of the tower.
After a first inspection by the technicians of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat and Tarragona Historical Heritage, the area has been protected to preserve the safety of visitors.
An exhaustive inspection will soon be carried out to draw up a restoration project. This funerary monument from the 1st century BC. C. was declared a World Heritage Site in 2000 and is currently managed by the National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona.
