A month for fair trade and the social economy at TGN

This year, with the restrictions imposed by the pandemic finally eliminated, the city will once again be able to take various initiatives to the streets within the program ‘In Tarragona in May: fair trade and the social and solidarity economy’. The programming, in charge of the Tarragona City Council, has the collaboration of Setem, CoopCamp and Teulada.

Among the events, the celebration of the XXI edition of the Festa del Comerç Just i la Banca Etica stands out, which will take place on May 14 in Plaça Corsini. In addition to fair trade products, especially food and textiles, there will be activities for children and adults.
In the same square, but on May 21, the fourth edition of the meeting of cooperatives and entities of the Social Economy of Camp de Tarragona will take place. In it, more than 30 social and solidarity economy organizations will present what their initiatives consist of and how they create jobs. This year, in addition, attendees will be able to participate in a gymkhana to get to know them better.

The other major public event will be the presentation of the Tarragona Urban Communities project, which will be launched by La Teulada, a network that brings together 13 cooperatives in the city. It will take place on May 31.

In addition to these three events, there will be different round tables and workshops throughout the month, including web conferences with experts organized by the Fair Trade Coordinator (La Coordi), as well as a graphic exhibition that will be installed at the IMET. All with the aim of questioning citizens about a key question: What can you do?

The presentation of the activities (all the acts can be consulted at was carried out by the Councilor for Cooperació, Hermán Pinedo, and the Councilor for Occupation and Economic Development, Manuel Castano. The latter took the opportunity to announce that Tarragona Impulsa, which already has a specific program to promote social enterprises, will award scholarships for the second year for projects that are in the initial phase. The program is endowed with €30,000.
