The Guàrdia Urbana de Reus drew up a report on Tuesday the 19th in the afternoon of an irregular business located in a flat on Doctor Vilaseca avenue. The house was used illegally as a beauty center specializing in manicures and the corresponding activity license authorization had not been requested.
The discovery of this illegal aesthetic center was by chance and the result of the chemical products used by the owner of the property. These products distilled an odor similar to gas on Tuesday after 7:00 p.m. And the neighbors who smelled it thought it was a full-blown leak of this product.
They called 112 explaining the incident and up to three Fire Brigade crews, Guàrdia Urbana patrols and an SEM ambulance were dispatched as a precaution.
The information provided by the witnesses indicated that the smell was noticeable on the landing of the third or fourth floor. And in that area Bombers passed the detector in case it confirmed the existence of a leak. An operator from the gas company was also called in case the suspicions were confirmed.
The detector was negative on the landing of the aforementioned floors, but a compatible odor continued to arrive, which ended up being located on the second floor of the building. On one of the floors where it was sensed that this smell was coming out, there was a persistent call without anyone answering.
While the origin was being sought, some of the neighbors were evicted to the street for prevention. The expectation and the rumor mill grew before the evident smell, but the absence of finding its origin.
After seeing that the owner of the apartment on the second floor was absent or something worse, it was decided that the Firefighters ladder would be accessed through the window and material damage would be reduced. It was necessary to take into account that someone could be unconscious when inhaling that supposed gas.
When Bombers entered the apartment, he opened the windows to ventilate the house and avoid accumulations. What they did not expect is that the smell came from chemicals used for nail polish and that the floor was a beauty salon.
The Guàrdia Urbana located the owner shortly before 9:00 p.m. and, seeing that it was a business without having been registered, opened a file for carrying out the activity without prior communication to the competent authorities.
After twenty-one in the building, the neighbors returned to their apartments in the building on Doctor Vilaseca Avenue.
